Budget Caps¶
Budget caps let project admins set a spending limit on a project. When the cap is reached, AI operations in the project are blocked until the limit is increased or usage is reset.
Setting a Budget Cap¶
At Project Creation¶
When creating a project, enter a dollar amount in the Budget Limit field. Leave it blank for unlimited spending.
After Creation¶
- Open the project and click Settings.
- In the Budget Management section, enter a dollar amount.
- Click Update Limit.
Budget Bar¶
On the project page, a budget bar shows your spending progress:
| Color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Under 70% of the budget used. |
| Yellow | Between 70% and 90% used. |
| Red | Over 90% used. |
If no budget is set, the bar shows total spending with an "∞ No limit" indicator.
What Happens When the Budget Is Reached¶
When a project's cumulative spending hits the budget limit:
- A Budget Limit Reached modal appears.
- It shows how much has been used and what the limit is.
- AI operations (sending messages, uploading files) are blocked for all members.
- The modal advises contacting the project admin.
Non-admin members will see: "Contact the project admin to increase or reset the budget."
Managing Budgets (Admin)¶
In Project Settings → Budget Management, admins can:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Update Limit | Change the budget cap to a new amount. |
| Remove Limit | Remove the cap entirely (unlimited spending). |
| Reset Usage | Reset the cumulative spending counter to $0.00. |
Reset vs. Refund
Resetting usage resets the counter only — it does not refund any credits. It's useful for starting a new budget period (e.g., monthly).
Budget Stats¶
The settings modal shows three budget statistics:
| Stat | Description |
|---|---|
| Used | Total spending in the project so far. |
| Limit | The current budget cap. |
| Remaining | Budget cap minus spending (how much is left). |
